GhIPSS commemorates 19 Years of Powering Ghana’s Digital Payment Transformation

GhIPSS has marked 19 years of driving Ghana’s digital payments transformation on 27 May, reinforcing its position as a key backbone of the country’s financial infrastructure while setting its sights on the milestone of 20 years of enabling seamless electronic payments and financial inclusion nationwide.

Over the past 19 years, GhIPSS has remained at the forefront of Ghana’s payment ecosystem, introducing interoperable platforms and secure infrastructure that have transformed how individuals, businesses, financial institutions, and government entities transact.

As a subsidiary of the Bank of Ghana, GhIPSS has supported the country’s shift toward a cash-lite economy through innovations including mobile money interoperability, gh-link, instant payment services, cheque truncation, and automated clearing house systems.

These platforms have enhanced transaction speed, strengthened security, and expanded financial inclusion across the country.

Key achievements include mobile money interoperability, gh-link, instant payment services, cheque truncation, automated clearing house services, and other digital payment innovations for financial institutions like GhanaPay; that continue to strengthen Ghana’s financial infrastructure.

Reflecting on the milestone, management noted that the anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate progress, impact, and partnerships that have driven the growth of Ghana’s digital economy.

“Today is a time to reflect on our journey. We have lived for 19 years, and what we have been able to achieve is something we should and must be proud of. As we move towards 20 years of establishment, the energy is even stronger as we continue building a future-ready payment ecosystem that supports innovation, drives financial inclusion, and delivers secure and efficient payment solutions for all Ghanaians,” Clara Arthur, the Chief Executive stated.

GhIPSS further reaffirmed its commitment to deeper collaboration with banks, fintechs, mobile money operators, and regulators to accelerate digital transformation and expand access to electronic payments nationwide, while strengthening its infrastructure-first and innovation-led agenda aligned with global standards.
