GhIPSS Promotes a Culture of Early Detection Through Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign

The Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS), as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities marking Pink October, has intensified efforts to promote breast cancer awareness and early detection through an educational session and screening exercise for staff, as well as an outreach screening programme for women in the Ridge business community.

The initiative reflects GhIPSS’s commitment to promoting preventive healthcare and supporting the well-being of its staff and the wider community.

The staff-focused activity featured an educational session on breast cancer, aimed at raising awareness about the disease, its potential warning signs and the importance of early detection. This was complemented by a screening exercise to encourage women to take proactive steps towards protecting their health.

As part of the community outreach component, GhIPSS extended the screening exercise to food vendors and other women within the Ridge business community. The Department of Radiology at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital supported the initiative by providing health professionals who conducted the screenings and educated participants on breast cancer prevention, early detection and the importance of seeking timely medical attention.

In total, 64 women were screened, including 34 women from the surrounding business community, highlighting the initiative’s reach beyond the workplace.

Speaking on the initiative, the Chief Executive of GhIPSS, Clara B. Arthur, emphasized the importance of prioritizing health and raising awareness about breast cancer. “At GhIPSS, we recognize that the well-being of our people extends beyond the workplace. Breast cancer awareness and early detection are critical, and we want to encourage our staff and the wider community to take proactive steps towards protecting their health. Through this initiative, we are reinforcing the importance of regular screening, timely medical attention and awareness about breast cancer. We believe that prioritizing health is an important part of building a healthier and more productive society,” she noted.

The Head of Brand and Communications, Eunice Asantewaa Ankomah, encouraged women to overcome fear, stigma and misinformation surrounding breast cancer and to take proactive steps towards protecting their health. “Let us encourage early detection and ensure timely treatment to save lives,” she said.

Breast cancer awareness and early detection are essential to promoting timely diagnosis and access to appropriate medical care. By combining education with screening and extending its reach to the surrounding business community, GhIPSS is helping to encourage greater health awareness and more proactive healthcare practices among women. Through this initiative, GhIPSS continues to demonstrate its commitment to employee well-being, community engagement and preventive healthcare as part of its broader corporate social responsibility efforts.
